Cancellation policy
Plans change. This page explains what happens when a practice or a locum cancels a shift booked through a FindALocum account, and when our booking fee applies.

Last updated 9 October 2026. This policy covers bookings made through FindALocum accounts. Enquiries sent through our website forms are not bookings and carry no cancellation charge.
The short version
- Either side can cancel a confirmed booking before the shift starts, and must give a reason.
- The other side is told straight away by email, and by text if they have chosen text updates.
- When a locum cancels, the shift reopens automatically and matching locums are told it is available again.
- FindALocum does not charge a cancellation fee. Our booking fee is only for days that were worked.
- Pay between the practice and the locum, including any cancellation payment, is whatever the two of you agreed. FindALocum does not set or collect it.
If you are a practice
Cancel a booking from the shift in your account, with a short reason. Please give as much notice as you can: the locum may have turned down other work for you.
If a booked shift did not go ahead on the day, for example because the locum could not attend, report it as "did not go ahead" in your account within 14 days. We ask the locum to confirm. If they agree, that day is not charged. If they say they worked it, FindALocum looks at what both of you tell us and decides. The day is left off your invoice while this is settled. If the day has already been invoiced, contact us and we will look at a credit.
You can also cancel a shift that has not been booked yet. Anyone who applied is told it is no longer available.
If you are a locum
Cancel from your bookings, with a short reason. The practice is told straight away and the shift reopens for other locums, so the earlier you cancel the better the practice's chance of finding cover.
We record how much notice was given. If a locum cancels at short notice repeatedly, we may review their account with them before they can take more bookings.
Once a shift has started, please contact the practice directly.
If a practice reports that a shift you were booked for did not go ahead, we will ask you to confirm. If you worked it, say so in your bookings and tell us what happened; FindALocum will check before anything changes.
When the booking fee applies
Practices pay FindALocum a fee for each locum day worked, as shown on our pricing page. A cancelled booking, or one confirmed as not going ahead, is not charged. Any free booking days used on it are returned.
Questions or disagreements
If you think a booking has been recorded wrongly, contact us with the shift date and practice. We will look at the record of what happened and put it right.
