Describe the department and responsibilities

Hospital pharmacy covers different clinical and technical services. A broad job title or band does not explain enough about the assignment. Specify the work and the experience essential to it.

Ward and clinical pharmacy

Identify the wards, patient groups and expected work, such as medicines reconciliation, prescription review or advice to the clinical team. Explain the pharmacist support and escalation arrangements.

Dispensary and discharge work

Set out the screening, supply and discharge responsibilities, the systems used and the team on the rota. Describe the handover process and any evening or weekend requirement.

Specialist assignments

For areas such as oncology, mental health, paediatrics or aseptic services, state the particular duties and evidence of recent relevant competence needed. Specialist cover requires assessment of that assignment.

Send a hospital pharmacy brief

Site and clinical area
The hospital, postcode, wards or department, patient groups and whether work spans more than one site.
Dates and rota
Each date, start and finish times, breaks and any evening, weekend or on-call duties. State whether continuity across a block is needed.
Experience and responsibilities
Recent hospital experience, specialty requirements, prescribing duties and the actual work expected. Include the job description if available.
Induction and access
Electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA), pharmacy and patient-record systems, local competencies, policies and the person arranging access.
Checks and booking terms
Your temporary staffing process, required evidence, clinical contact, proposed pay and who can authorise the booking.

We are building our network across these roles. An enquiry lets us review the requirement and suitable availability; cover is confirmed only after the person, required checks, pay and terms are agreed.

Registration

Registration checked on the public register

We check each pharmacist’s GPhC or PSNI entry, including any conditions, before they can be booked.

Checks and standards

Check relevant hospital experience

Confirm the registration required in the country of work: GPhC in Great Britain or PSNI in Northern Ireland. Review the person’s recent practice against the ward, specialty and duties requested. Community experience or work in another hospital helps, but each department has its own demands.

If prescribing or specialist work is required, assess the relevant status and competence separately. Agree what the pharmacist can undertake, where they need support and who makes the final suitability decision.

Complete the hospital’s checks and induction

Agree checking responsibilities through the hospital’s recruitment and temporary staffing process. NHS Employers publishes standards covering identity, professional registration and qualifications, right to work, employment history, criminal records and work health assessments. The checks and evidence need to fit the role and applicable arrangements.

Give the pharmacist access to local policies, authorised systems and a named induction contact. Confirm the handover, escalation and end-of-shift arrangements. An introduction through FindALocum does not give hospital approval or access to an NHS procurement framework.

Free to register, with no work-finding fees.

Register for hospital pharmacist work

Tell us the hospital settings and specialties you have worked in, how recently you worked there and which systems you know. Include relevant prescribing or specialist experience, availability and travel preferences.

If you want to move into hospital work, say where you would need training or supervision. We are building our network; registration is free and does not confirm a placement or a training opportunity.

Only genuine authorised opportunities are published. View published hospital pharmacist vacancies or register your availability if no suitable role is listed.

Checks

Checked before anyone is booked

We check registration on the public register, right to work and indemnity before a locum can be booked.

Booking questions

Can I request specialist hospital pharmacist cover?

Yes. Describe the specialty, patient group, duties and essential recent experience. Suitability and availability must be assessed for that specific role before a booking is confirmed.

Is a band enough to describe the assignment?

Include it where relevant, but also provide the duties, clinical area, support and competencies needed. The work and local arrangements determine whether a pharmacist is suitable.

Can a community pharmacist register for hospital work?

Yes. Describe your actual experience and any induction or training needs. Registering does not prove hospital competence or guarantee a placement. The role and the support on offer need to suit you.

Does this page confirm NHS framework or approved-supplier status?

No. The hospital must follow its own procurement and temporary staffing requirements. Confirm that the proposed engagement is permitted before agreeing a booking.

How much is the hospital pharmacist booking fee?

The booking fee is £19.99 + VAT per locum, per day worked. The hiring organisation contracts with and pays the pharmacist directly, including agreed expenses. Confirm all dates, duties, pay and booking terms before work starts.
