Get shift alertsAsk how the practice uses its technicians
A practice role may include supporting medicines reconciliation, following agreed repeat-prescription processes, communicating with pharmacies or organising medicines-related information. Ask which tasks are included and how work reaches you. A technician post should have clear boundaries and a route for questions requiring a pharmacist or prescriber.
Translate your background into relevant evidence
Describe the workflows you have handled, the records or systems used and how you escalated work outside your responsibility. If your experience is mainly in community or hospital pharmacy, identify what transfers and what is new. An accuracy-checking qualification does not describe all the skills needed for practice work.
Choose a role with workable induction and support
Ask who will explain local procedures, check initial work where appropriate and answer questions during the session. A short booking can still need a substantial introduction to the practice’s medicines workflow. Agree the role, hours and support before you compare offers on pay.
If you want a recurring assignment, explain your available days and whether you can work at several practices. Make the location and system implications part of that discussion.
Shift alerts
Hear about new shifts first
When a practice posts pharmacy technician work that fits your days and travel distance, we email you a link to it.
Get shift alertsUse a workflow example in your profile
For example: describe how you organised medicines-related correspondence within an agreed process and passed questions to the responsible pharmacist. Name the systems and your responsibility without including patient details. This is more useful than saying you are comfortable with every aspect of primary care.
Professional requirements for the role
Great Britain requires GPhC technician registration. PSNI does not currently register technicians in Northern Ireland; check relevant qualifications and experience.
Specify the technician duties, local procedures and supervision. Dispensing, accuracy-checking and system qualifications each cover only part of the work in a GP practice. Identify who reviews decisions outside the agreed technician role.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Register for freeQuestions about the work
Is a pharmacy technician the same role as a pharmacist?
No. Select pharmacy technician when registering and describe your own qualifications and duties. The practice must define technician responsibilities and identify the pharmacist or prescriber responsible for work outside that scope.
Can I move into general practice from another pharmacy setting?
You can register your interest and relevant experience. Discuss the differences in records, patient contact and local processes, plus the induction and support the assignment would need. A change of setting should not depend on an assumed skill match.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. Registration and work-finding are free for locums. You choose which assignments to accept and agree your rate, expenses and terms directly with the practice, which pays you directly.
