Match the technician role to the setting
Technician work varies between settings and employers. Describe the tasks and the training they need. A job title does not tell you which competencies someone has.
Community pharmacy
Requests may involve dispensing, medicines supply, stock management or other defined technician work. Include the PMR, team arrangements and any services the technician would support.
Hospital pharmacy
Specify dispensary work, ward stock, medicines-history or reconciliation support, and any discharge tasks. State the local training and competence needed for specialist or technical work.
General practice and primary care
Describe prescription processes, medicines reconciliation, audit or medication-review support. Agree supervision, escalation and the clinical systems used. State whether the role is on site, remote or hybrid.
What to include in a technician cover request
- Country and workplace
- The country of work, setting and site address. For remote work, identify the service supported and any attendance requirements.
- Dates and duties
- The hours, breaks, expected tasks and workload. Say if you need an accuracy checking technician (ACT).
- Competence and support
- The qualifications, recent experience, role-specific evidence and supervision needed. Explain who handles clinical queries or work outside the technician’s scope.
- Systems and induction
- The PMR or clinical systems, individual access, local procedures and person providing induction.
- Pay and confirmation
- The proposed rate, payment process, any expenses and cancellation terms, with a named person authorised to confirm the booking.
We are building our network across these roles. An enquiry lets us review the requirement and suitable availability; cover is confirmed only after the person, required checks, pay and terms are agreed.

Request coverRegistration in Great Britain and Northern Ireland
To practise as a pharmacy technician in England, Scotland or Wales, a person must maintain GPhC registration. Check current status and the qualifications and experience relevant to the role.
Northern Ireland has a different position. At this page’s review date, PSNI states that it does not currently register or regulate pharmacy technicians there and is working with the Department of Health on future arrangements. Check current PSNI information and the employer’s qualification and competence requirements. There may be no PSNI technician registration number to check.
Check accuracy-checking duties separately
If the assignment includes final accuracy checking, request evidence that relates to those duties, recent practice and the employer’s local checking arrangements. Confirm the scope, induction and escalation route before the work begins.
Being registered as a technician does not cover every checking or specialist task. An accuracy check and a pharmacist’s clinical assessment serve different purposes. Set out which checks have been completed and when work must be referred to the pharmacist.
Free to register, with no work-finding fees.
Register for pharmacy technician work
Tell us your qualifications, settings, systems experience and availability. For work in Great Britain, include your GPhC registration details. For Northern Ireland, describe your qualifications and relevant work history so the requirements can be reviewed appropriately.
Include any accuracy-checking or specialist training and the duties you have recently undertaken. Registration is free. We are building our network and will consider your preferences when reviewing suitable requests; a booking requires its own checks and confirmation.
Only genuine authorised opportunities are published. View published technician vacancies or register your availability if no suitable role is listed.
Checks
Checked before anyone is booked
We check registration on the public register, right to work and indemnity before a locum can be booked.
Checks and standardsBooking questions

In England, Scotland and Wales, pharmacy technicians must maintain GPhC registration. PSNI currently does not register or regulate pharmacy technicians in Northern Ireland. Check its latest information and the requirements for the proposed role.
