For GP practices and PCNs
On-site practice nurse cover
Request a practice nurse to cover specified clinics at your surgery. Give the appointment mix, required skills and available facilities so the proposed cover can be assessed properly.

Build the request from the clinic list
List the procedures, patient groups and other nursing work involved. Include appointment lengths, documentation time and any qualification or recent training the duties require. If the rota mixes several clinic types, set out what each one needs. A request for “a nurse for the day” is hard to match.
Prepare the room and the practice workflow
Confirm the room, equipment, supplies, current procedures and support for the agreed sessions. Name the person who will meet the locum and arrange individual system access. Set aside induction time so local arrangements are understood before patient appointments begin.
Agree cover around the nurse’s confirmed skills
Review the proposed person’s experience against the actual appointment mix. If a duty falls outside the agreed scope, arrange suitable cover or revise the session before confirming it.
Explain who provides clinical support, handles changes to the clinic and receives outstanding work. For repeated sessions, make continuity and follow-up part of the booking plan, including days when the locum is absent.

Booking
From request to confirmed booking
Post the shift, review applicants and agree terms in writing. Every step is recorded for you and the locum.
Register your practiceCheck the whole rota before confirming
If the morning and afternoon require different nursing skills, describe both in the request. Confirm that the proposed locum’s experience covers each part and that the practice can provide the necessary facilities. Where there is a gap, change the rota or arrange additional suitable cover before booking patients.
Professional requirements for the role
Check current NMC registration and relevant register entries. Nursing registration applies across the UK.
Match the individual to the advertised duties and patient groups. A registered nurse is not automatically an advanced practitioner or a prescriber. Include any required prescribing qualification, recent procedure-specific experience and support arrangements in the brief.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Register your practiceQuestions about booking cover
Can we request cover for vaccination or screening clinics?
Describe the exact clinic and relevant training, experience and service requirements. Check the proposed nurse’s experience and the practice’s facilities against that clinic.
Can the locum also cover an advanced-practice appointment list?
Specify those duties separately and assess the qualifications and competence needed. Do not add advanced practice or prescribing responsibilities to a practice nurse booking without explicit agreement and the relevant checks.
How much is the booking fee?
£19.99 + VAT per locum for each calendar day worked, including a part-day. Prices exclude VAT. The practice contracts with and pays the locum directly, including agreed expenses, separately from our fee. The same fee applies to GP, pharmacist, pharmacy technician and nursing cover.
