For GP practices and PCNs
Remote nursing support for your practice
Request a practice nurse for a defined workload that is suitable for remote delivery. Explain the patient contact, information available and local support that make the arrangement workable.

Separate remote tasks from procedural cover
Identify the particular review, follow-up or communication work you want completed remotely. Keep vaccinations, specimen collection, wound care and other hands-on procedures in a separate on-site plan. A remote session cannot stand in for a clinic that requires a nurse physically present.
Specify competence for the patient work
Describe the patient groups, expected decisions, relevant experience and any prescribing requirement. State the support available and which questions go to another clinician. Assess the proposed nurse against this workload. Being free to work remotely says nothing about whether they suit it.
Connect the nurse to the practice
Arrange individual records access and approved communication tools, with a named person testing the setup before the session. Explain how patients are contacted and how an in-person appointment can be arranged when needed. Set the process for unfinished contacts, missed calls and handover.
For repeated work, decide who maintains continuity when the locum is not booked. Plan what happens if the connection or system fails, so patient work is not stranded in a task list nobody can reach.
Remote sessions
Ready before the session starts
Secure access, two-step sign-in and a named contact for escalation are agreed before any remote work begins.
Register your practiceDefine the handover in the request
For a planned follow-up session, identify how the nurse receives the list, where the outcome is recorded and who picks up patients needing further contact or attendance. Include the session end time and the named handover recipient. The clinical suitability of the pathway remains a service decision.
Professional requirements for the role
Check current NMC registration and relevant register entries. Nursing registration applies across the UK.
Match the individual to the advertised duties and patient groups. A registered nurse is not automatically an advanced practitioner or a prescriber. Include any required prescribing qualification, recent procedure-specific experience and support arrangements in the brief.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Register your practiceQuestions about booking cover
Can remote nursing remove the need for a nurse in the surgery?
Only the specified remote-suitable work can be considered for this arrangement. Physical procedures and patients needing in-person assessment still require an appropriate local service. Describe both sides of the plan.
Can a remote nurse work across our PCN?
List the practices and systems, how patients are allocated and who provides clinical support. Access, records, follow-up and accountability must be clear for each practice involved.
How much is the booking fee?
£19.99 + VAT per locum for each calendar day worked, including a part-day. Prices exclude VAT. The practice contracts with and pays the locum directly, including agreed expenses, separately from our fee. The same fee applies to GP, pharmacist, pharmacy technician and nursing cover.
