For GP practices and PCNs
Locum dispensers for your dispensing practice
Send the dispensary hours you need covered and how your dispensary works. We take requests for locum dispensers in dispensing GP practices across the UK.

Describe the dispensary
Give the opening hours, typical daily item numbers, delivery or collection arrangements and the clinical and stock systems in use. Say whether the locum will handle controlled drugs, repeat requests or multi-compartment compliance aids.
Set out supervision and checking
Name the person who completes the final accuracy check and the GP or pharmacist who answers clinical queries. Share the dispensary standard operating procedures before the first session so the locum works to your local process.
Match the qualification to your requirements
If your practice takes part in the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme in England, check what it requires for dispensing staff training and experience, and tell us. FindALocum checks the locum’s dispensing qualification or course enrolment, identity, right to work, DBS and references; your own checks still apply.

Booking
From request to confirmed booking
Post the shift, review applicants and agree terms in writing. Every step is recorded for you and the locum.
Register your practiceTurn a dispensary gap into a usable brief
For example: cover for a part-time dispenser on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks, 8.30am to 6pm, around 250 items a day on SystmOne, with home deliveries and the final check by the senior dispenser.
Professional requirements for the role
Pharmacy dispensers are not on a professional register. Check the dispensing qualification the practice requires, for example a level 2 dispensing qualification, or enrolment on a recognised course, together with identity, right to work, DBS and references.
A GP dispensary works to the practice’s own procedures. Practices in the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme in England must meet its requirements for dispensing staff training and experience. Name who completes the final accuracy check, who answers clinical queries and which tasks the locum may do alone.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Register your practiceQuestions about booking cover
Do locum dispensers need their own indemnity?
Not to register with us. Agree how your practice’s indemnity arrangements cover the dispensing duties before the booking.
Can a trainee dispenser cover our dispensary?
Only if that suits your procedures and any scheme you take part in. Tell us whether you need a qualified dispenser or can supervise someone who is enrolled on a course.
How much is the booking fee?
£19.99 + VAT per locum for each calendar day worked, including a part-day. Prices exclude VAT. The practice contracts with and pays the locum directly, including agreed expenses, separately from our fee. The same fee applies to GP, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, pharmacy dispenser and nursing cover.
