Locum dispenser jobs in GP practices
Dispensing practices supply medicines to their own eligible patients, usually in rural areas. Tell us your dispensing qualification, the systems you know and the days you can cover, and we will match you to practice requests.
No registration or work-finding fees. You choose which assignments to accept.

Get shift alertsKnow how a GP dispensary differs
A dispensing practice runs its dispensary to its own procedures rather than as a registered pharmacy. Ask who completes the final accuracy check, how prescriptions reach the dispensary from the clinical system and how queries go to a GP or pharmacist.
Community pharmacy experience transfers well, but stock systems, delivery rounds and the practice clinical system may be new to you. Say which of these you have used recently.
Show your qualification and checks
Upload your dispensing qualification certificate, or the enrolment letter for your course, as a training certificate. FindALocum also checks your identity, right to work, DBS certificate and references before any booking.
You do not need your own indemnity cover to register. Ask the practice how its cover applies to the dispensing duties.
Agree the session before you accept
Confirm the opening hours you will cover, the expected workload, whether you handle controlled drugs, deliveries or repeat requests, and who you report to on the day. Agree your rate, any travel and the cancellation terms with the practice in writing.

For example: level 2 dispensing qualification; two years in a GP dispensary using SystmOne; available Mondays and Fridays; can travel 20 miles; happy to cover repeat prescriptions and stock, with the final check done by the practice.
Professional requirements for the role
Pharmacy dispensers are not on a professional register. Check the dispensing qualification the practice requires, for example a level 2 dispensing qualification, or enrolment on a recognised course, together with identity, right to work, DBS and references.
A GP dispensary works to the practice’s own procedures. Practices in the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme in England must meet its requirements for dispensing staff training and experience. Name who completes the final accuracy check, who answers clinical queries and which tasks the locum may do alone.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Can a trainee dispenser register?
Yes, if you are enrolled on a dispensing course. Upload your enrolment letter and say how far through the course you are. The practice decides whether the work suits your stage of training.
Is GP dispensary work remote or on-site?
Dispensing is on-site work. Give the travel distance you can manage and any days you cannot work.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. Registration and work-finding are free for locums. You choose which assignments to accept and agree your rate, expenses and terms directly with the practice, which pays you directly.
