Get shift alertsUnderstand the remote role before agreeing hours
A remote pharmacist assignment may centre on a defined work queue, patient consultations or a combination. Ask how tasks reach you, what counts as complete and who handles a query that needs further clinical input. Agree the boundaries before comparing session rates or committing to a repeated schedule.
Check access to the complete workflow
Experience using EMIS or SystmOne is useful, but access to a new practice still needs arranging. Find out what records and communication tools you will use, who approves access and when you can test it. Ask how work is transferred between practices if the booking covers a PCN.
Make support visible during the session
Know who can answer clinical and operational questions, how to reach them and what happens when they are unavailable. Confirm the route for patient work that requires attendance and how unfinished tasks are handed back. Agree a private workspace, approved equipment and a fallback if the connection fails.
Be clear about any on-site induction requirement. A role described as remote can still involve planned attendance, which needs to fit your availability and location.
Remote sessions
Ready before the session starts
Secure access, two-step sign-in and a named contact for escalation are agreed before any remote work begins.
Register for freeExplain your remote working background
For example: describe a previous practice workflow you supported remotely, the system you used and the way you handed back unresolved work. Say whether patient consultations and prescribing were included. Keep examples anonymous and distinguish experience from training you have yet to use in practice.
Professional requirements for the role
Check GPhC registration in Great Britain or PSNI registration in Northern Ireland. Verify prescribing status when required.
Describe the actual medicines workload, relevant experience and supervision arrangements. Someone with a community pharmacy background or a prescribing qualification may still need support with some general practice work. Check any applicable training and funding requirements separately.
State the country where the service is delivered. Onboarding, local service requirements and any funding conditions need checking for that assignment.

Register for freeQuestions about the work
Can I do remote practice work using only community pharmacy system experience?
Explain both your pharmacy background and any practice-system experience. The assignment may require different records access, workflows and clinical support. A suitable induction and agreed scope are essential; access should not be assumed from experience with another system.
Does remote pharmacist work guarantee flexible hours?
No. Practices may need fixed sessions and availability alongside their team. State your preferred hours, then confirm the actual schedule and response expectations for any proposed booking.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. Registration and work-finding are free for locums. You choose which assignments to accept and agree your rate, expenses and terms directly with the practice, which pays you directly.
